The Mindset That Held Me Back for Years

Something curious happened after I sold my first writing business.

There I was, planning my next move, sitting with a healthy six-figure paycheck in the bank, and then…

I choked.

Utterly convinced that my success came from a random stroke of luck, I began looking for a teacher. Someone to show me how to grow an online business.

So I started watching videos about “5K of Passive Income by Blogging”, and “Your First $1000 Weekend” even though I had already done both of those.

And guess what?

It didn’t help.

My business stagnated for years until I was able to shift away from this mindset:

I decided I needed permission.

No one had given me permission to create online. No one had shown me how to do it. And a physics degree didn't feel relevant to running a business.

So I thought I should get qualified to do what I was already successfully doing.

But the magic of creating your own writing business is that it doesn’t matter what your CV looks like.

It doesn’t matter how you got the skills.

All that matters is that you’re getting the results you want.

Your audience doesn’t care that you don’t have an MBA. They care about how much you can help them.

The only permission you need is yours. And you are the only person who can give it.

You can do this. I believe in you. But you need to give yourself permission to believe in you too.

Much love from my screen to yours,

A Lesson from Seth Godin’s First Blog Post ↓ I’m a guilty writer. It’s not that I feel guilty for writing. It’s that I suffer from crippling guilt if I don’t write. I’m not a robot in a vacuum, so I inevitably miss a week. That’s when the guilt starts to creep in like a growing shadow. The voice in my head goes something like this: “Oh my...
